And pledges to raise another $250,000 for elderly causes in its 25th anniversary charity drive.

Chinese New Year arrived early at Raffles Medical Group's launch of its 25th anniversary celebrations, and in true traditional Chinese fashion, the good deeds came in pairs.

The Group's Chairman and Board of Directors signed a pledge to set aside half a percent of their annual profits for charitable causes for the next five years, making it one of the first companies in the private sector to publicly heed the Prime Minister's call to the successful in society to donate half a percent of their income or profits on regular basis.

As part of its 25th anniversary celebration of its founding, the Group also launched a donation drive to raise an additional $250,000 to be distributed to charitable and elderly causes at its 25th anniversary dinner in July.

Executive Chairman Dr Loo Choon Yong said: "Our response to the Prime Minister's call to promote a philanthropic culture in Singapore formalises what we have already been doing very quietly over the years, in money and in kind."

For its 20th anniversary in 1996, Raffles Medical Group raised $108,000 for the St Luke's Hospital, a charitable hospital that provides hospice care for the elderly. In 1999/2000, the Group adopted the St John's Home for the Aged and raised more than $30,000 for the home.

The Group conducted free physiotheraphy and nurse training workshops for its adopted charities' staff and patients, and have donated drugs to several charities for disaster relief efforts in neighbouring countries in the last few years.

Raffles Medical Group also unveiled its new logo. Speaking on its 25th anniversary events lined up for the year, Dr Loo highlighted the Group's unique group practice approach where doctors, specialists and supporting healthcare professionals work collaboratively to provide the best care for its patients. The Group is poised to be a fully integrated private healthcare organisation by this year when its flagship hospital opens in the first quarter.
